Beauty and the Beast

The incredible storm that pummeled 31 states and affected more than 100,000,000 people clobbered us on the first and second of February. It was a beast. The first part was tolerable with mixed precipitation hitting us on Tuesday - snow, sleet and some freezing rain. Overnight, however, we get a steady deluge of freezing rain that coated everything with significant ice. We here in Berks County, PA did not get the worst of it by far, but we did have touch and go moments. Trees and power lines were knocked down and the roads were treacherous. Lesley and I weren't going anywhere. They didn't do any plowing on Tuesday in our development and on Wednesday the plow didn't get here until late morning and really didn't clear away much of the ice that was blanketing the thoroughfares.

The wind picked up later in the day and the trees on the ridge line across the street were groaning and cracking under the strain of the wind and heavy icing. It was eerie.

That was the bad part. But, as I was out shoveling or taking the dog for a walk (he had fun!), I couldn't help but notice the beauty of such a storm. Every tree and shrub, every branch and bud, were covered in crystalline magnificence. It wasn't long until I got the camera and went out to record the micro part of the storm's deposit. So, I thought I would share some of the images I got. A little bit of God's handiwork in all of the tumult.
