There is no end to the advice given to photographers by other photographers. They can all be taken with a grain of salt since each of us has to develop his own style and approach. However, there are two pieces of advice I have taken to heart.
One: Always carry a camera with you. Two: The best camera is the one (you guessed it) that you have with you. If you don't have a camera with you, you can't take pictures.
So, despite my wife's discomfort, I lug equipment with me on our trips and on little errands around town. You never know what you are going to see.
This past weekend we were out on Long Island and visited my brother-in-law and his family in Riverhead. I like going out there and my brother-in-law, Lindsay, is a great subject. With their three sons living at home there is always an eclectic collection of stuff around that makes for good photographs.
I used a Nikon D700 with the wonderful Nikkor 50mm f1.4 lens. The "normal" lens. I don't use this enough and I reveled in taking some shots with it. Here are some of the results:
